We’re more than just some pretty data

We’ve been a little quiet for the last couple months… wait it’s been a HALF YEAR? oh man we really dropped the ball. No need to dwell on the past. Our collective education, careers, political aspirations, pets are neither here nor there. It is time to look to the future!

More specifically looking at the very short term future and the most recent 2 months of our lives. So what have we been doing? Well we’ve been mostly preparing for our second year of NL Sketchfest! Last year our post went out about a month after the show which wasn’t very useful but this year you get a post a FULL WEEK before our show on May 12th 2026 at 9pm. Also we aren’t just doing 10 newcomer minutes. This year we’ll be performing a 20 minute sketch and closing out the first day of the festival. Syed and I are on our third year writing and performing sketch. Steve is in number two and Dave is fresh off the boat and ready to float.

The font is tiny. Don’t @ me

You might wonder what is the show about? Well it is a story about… well I don’t want to spoil it. What you need to know is we are turning our stand-up, improv, and advoacy skills into sketch comedy for the second time. The show will look at social and urban issues in a way that makes you laugh1 while also waxing a little political to to provide some deeper context as to why we do what we do2. Last year we essentially dunked on Kenmount Road and stroads for a full 10 minutes. This year we wrote an actual story with an overall concept (insert your amazement here)

Are those… costumes?

The process of how we got here was not just fun, but collaborative. We brainstormed the general story progression. We then wrote some ideas that we turned into something via improv. We then honed those recorded scenes into the funniest bits through traditional writing. We then timed our read (it was too long) following by much cutting and editing. Then off to blocking, props, costumes and cues. We have many-a-prop and costume! You better believe our writing sketch has spreadsheets and data analytics. Don’t worry. We have silly stats. You can see them below.

Yeah we tracked our major edits total time of our scenes
and of course we did it on an individual basis. Yeah I started with a LOT of monologues.

So why tell you about this? Well we’d love for you to come see us perform our silly comedy but more importantly we’d like to let you know that we are back. This has consumed the greater part of the last 10 weeks of our lives, meeting every Saturday3 and some Sundays, writing, planning, etc. But other things have happened as well.

Our core database has been updated and will be going live soon4. We are still working on the giant tax project and have our testing environment complete; boy is it jarring. We have some interesting data ATIP’d regarding some stuff we can reveal in the future 😉The website relaunch is probably already live5. We are working on longer form political comedy to be seen on our beautiful social media pages6. This year marks the newest stats canada update so that will be added.

Regardless, we are back and we are starting with a bang! See you at NL Sketchfest… or not… you do you. As the outro goes, we always want to make sure that streets, err sketches are for people. Wait no that doesn’t work. Ummm. C-ya next time?7

1 We do not guarantee any laughs 2 It may no provide any context 3 Not every Saturday 4 Same phrase since late 2024 ™️©️®️5 But probably not 6 Pending one of use makes the pages 7 Streets are indeed for people! Got em!
